Perhaps the most controversial exam in the history of UK education, the Eleven-Plus was introduced in the 1940s and phased out in the 1970s, with the coming of

'Comprehensive' schools, although it is still in use in some counties and boroughs, and in Northern Ireland. Until now, however, there has been no way of comparing the schooling of old with the modern practices that educate the children of today. Offering examination papers from the 1940s and 1950s, The Eleven-Plus Book contains questions spanning a number of subjects, from English and Arithmetic to Comprehension and General Intelligence.
