The stories in this book are about criminals and events in their lives.
Some were tough individuals with heart, and others were treacherous with rat-like cunning that had no heart at all. Some of them were brave men and did the best they could to serve their time without fuss. Others sought confrontation and fought like scavenging seagulls over a snack; loose cannons who smash through life and unfairly tar all prisoners with the same brush. Committing a bad deed does not automatically make someone a bad person, though it may place them in prison. There are bad people in prison but this book is an effort to humanise a few, rather than demonise the lot. Immerse yourself in their world and keep your mind open and eyes peeled.
